Breaking news! Kwara state commissioner of police shot dead.

Tragedy struck in Enugu yesterday when the kwara state commissioner of Police Mr Chinwike Asadu was shot dead by unknown gunmen.

His police orderly, Aloha Olaniyi and Driver, Oliver Omeh, who were with him at the time of the incident sustained serious bullet wounds  and are said to be lying critically at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu.

The incident occurred at Amorji Nike, near the densely populated Abakpa  Nike area in Enugu East local government area within the state capital at about 10 pm.

The Police Commissioner, who reportedly visited his home in Enugu at the weekend, was driving into his private residence when the assailants who  may have laid an ambush around his residence attacked him and his aides about 100 metres away from his house.
CP Asadu, according to sources, had a visitor whom he escorted along with his driver and a police orderly posted to guard his residence from Abakpa Police Division, leaving behind the official escort team that came with him from Kwara State Police Command.

They were returning to the house after dropping the visitor when they suddenly noticed a bus trailing them behind as they branched into his street only for the gunmen to start firing at the vehicle from the rear.

The gunmen were said to have shot sporadically killing the CP and wounding the two policemen but before they escaped, they reportedly took away the rifle of the orderly whose body was riddled with bullets.

Does Enugu State Governor Discriminates Against Yoruba In Enugu?

Yoruba community in Enugu State has cried out over what it described as total neglect and marginalisation by the present Enugu State government led by Sullivan Chime.

The aggrieved members of Yoruba community, who made their feelings public through their leader, Mr. Ade Johnson Adeyelu, regretted that the group which was formed in 1990 and registered under then Anambra State Government had never before now experienced marginalisation in the state.
Adeyelu said that his people voted for state government during the last general election and wondered why Chime’s government has since inception not cared for their welfare.

His words: “We have passed through series of military governors and military administrators down the line to the civilian governors.
“Over these years, we have enjoyed some sort of patronage from the government, patronage in the sense that some Yorubas then were given the opportunity to be members of the Muslim Welfare Board. As a result of that they were given one or two slots to participate in Hajj Operations in Medina. From that 1990, down to when Chimaroke became governor, we still enjoyed the slots that were given to the Yoruba community in Enugu.
“There is no doubt we are facing a lot of problems in this state. We have not benefited anything from the present administration in Enugu State. We as a community we have participated in almost all the activities of the state. The last straw that broke the camel’s back was the present Hajj operation, which we recommended people to participate. But up till now, there is no single Yoruba man that belongs to the Yoruba community that was given any slot to participate in the Hajj operation.”

Adeyelu recalled that since governor Chime came on board, he had written about five letters seeking for audience with him, to let his government know the problems of the Yoruba community but unfortunately none of the letters was replied.
He also expressed disappointment that Chime does not care and had not asked leaders of non-indigenes in his state the problems their various groups are facing in the state, just as he regretted that the immediate past administration cancelled the allocation of land given to the Yoruba community to build its secretariat by the former military governor of the state, Navy Captain Mike Agbaje.

The secretariat, he said, would have served as a centre where the Yoruba cultural heritage would have been sold to the people, adding that all the promises of re-allocation of another land to the community made by the past administration, did not yield fruitful dividend until its tenure expired in 2007.
Besides, Adeyelu advised all members of the Yoruba community in the state to remain calm, law abiding and loyal not only to their host state but to the Federal Government as there is still hope for a better tomorrow for them.

Welcome To Ubang, Community Where Women Cant Speak Same Language As Men !!!

All over the world, differences exist between man and woman only by their sexes, but in the Ubang community in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State the dissimilarities have transcended genital organs, as the men have different words for communication from their women counterparts.

Call it the land of impossibilities both in tourism and in all facets of life and you would not be far from the truth. To some, it might be a mystery, to others a fairy tale, because you would not believe or have imagined that a community in Nigeria, which prides itself as the only one in the world have its people speaking two separate languages, the men speak separately from the women.

The beauty of it is that the man and the woman understand each other without inviting an interpreter, but the law is, the man must not be caught speaking the same language of a woman, vice-versa.

With no concrete documentation to how it evolved, some of the residents in the Ubang community, who spoke with Channels Television, appears to be proud of their ancestral heritage which according to them is as old as the community itself and it is second to none in the world.

According to them, this tradition, which they cannot challenge or change, forbids women from speaking the same language used by the male counterparts, is like a law which the people must obey at all costs.

In other words, in a home, the husband must speak a different language from the wife, while a man must find a way to communicate with his daughter and vice versa.

The Village head of the community, Joseph Aleinyang said in spite of the language dissimilarities amongst his kindred’s Ubang since its inception has remained one of the most peaceful in the state, promoting communal living and are also the food basket of the state in terms of cocoa and other agricultural produce, but has remained in abject poverty due to its bad road network to transport its produce for better sales to the outer communities.

There is also a major challenge of employment among its youths, lack of access to portable drinking water as the only source of water supply to the entire community is a stream which requires long distance to access most especially, during the dry season.

There is still more mysteries that lies in the domain of the Ubang community which needs to be harnessed, one of the Ubang Mountains called Okwe Asirikwe, a gigantic rock bearing a supernatural foot print, which no one has been able to unravel the source, no human being living or dead had the size of the foot print, which makes residents believe that it was the foot print of God.
